Has any team had the spotlight on it more than the Cleveland Browns this offseason? After trading for superstar quarterback Deshaun Watson, all the talk has been about his civil lawsuits and 6-game suspension rather than the team’s potential performance. The NFL is still appealing Watson’s suspension so we won’t know the extent of his availability until closer to the start of the season. 

For now, Jacoby Brissett will be starting at least the first six games of the season after the Browns parted ways with former number one overall draft pick Baker Mayield. Brissett and Watson are polar opposites on the field, so look for Cleveland to run the ball hard with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt to begin the year. One thing to .........

How Will Frank Reich Move on From Carson Wentz? When Frank Reich re-connected with Carson Wentz in Indianapolis, many thought that it would resurrect the quarterback’s career. After all, Wentz saw success with Reich as his offensive coordinator in Philadelphia. Unfortunately for both sides, it just never worked out. Wentz was shipped off to Washington after one season with the Colts and replaced by an even older Matt Ryan.

Reich has always been seen as an intelligent coach with a great offensive mind. The problem is, it hasn’t resulted in much during his tenure there. There might not be any division that is more up for grabs this year than the AFC South. It seems like all four teams are in some sort of rebuild, although the Colts and Titans are clearly ahead of the pack. The Colts enter this year with most of their personnel intact, aside from one major change: Carson Wentz is out and Matt Ryan is in. Is that a net improvement? It’s hard to say. Wentz struggled in his brief stint with the Colts and not even Frank Reich could resurrect his career. Indy packed him off to Washington in an offseason trade, and the Colts acquired long-time Atlanta Falcon quarterback Matt Ryan. 

Ryan is a veteran presence that should be able to at least fill in for a year or two behind a strong offensive line. .........

Taylor shocked the world last year after leading his young Bengals team to the AFC Championship, and then coming up one play short in the Super Bowl against the Rams. The 39-year-old from Norman, Oklahoma had people skeptical when he was hired as the Bengals coach after just a couple years of previous NFL coaching experience. While his first two seasons were rough, everything fell into place last season when a healthy Joe Burrow and the outstanding rookie Ja’Marr Chase rekindled their LSU connection.

Cincinnati saw a magical run to the Super Bowl where they ultimately lost to the Los Angeles Rams. The Bengals knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, as well as the Tennessee Titans and the Las Vegas Raiders. Can the Bengals repeat their successes in 2022?

If the Baltimore Ravens season seemed disjointed last year, it was. The year kicked off with both JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards tearing their ACLs in training camp. This put Baltimore at a severe offensive disadvantage, and were forced to go with veterans like Devonta Freeman and Latavius Murray. The Ravens also lost left tackle Ronnie Staley and cornerback Marcus Peters last year to season-ending injuries. It was no surprise that the Ravens did not make the playoffs, although the fact that they were competitive until the final couple of weeks in the season is a testament to coach John Harbaugh and the depth of the Ravens’ organization.

Last year Cowboys fans thought it was finally time for America’s Team to make that long playoff run. Unfortunately, they ran into the playoff buzzsaw that is the San Francisco 49ers. Dallas enters 2022/2023 as the odds on favorite to win the NFC East division again, but that isn’t saying much. In what is likely one of the weakest divisions in the NFL, the Cowboys have little competition from Washington or the Giants, while the Eagles could make a run depending on the play of quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Dak Prescott is back under center in what should be a high powered offence once again. Gone is Amari Cooper, as the Cowboys hand the reins over to CeeDee Lamb. They re-signed Michael Gallup and signed deep threat James Washington .........

Can Russell Wilson Push the Broncos to the Top of the AFC? Ever since Peyton Manning retired, the Broncos have been searching for that missing piece to push them over the top. Years of great defenses were stifled by mediocre offenses. Now that the Broncos have revamped their offense, they needed a consistent quarterback. Finally, in 2022, they have all of these elements in place after acquiring long-time Seattle Seahawk quarterback, Russell Wilson.

Wilson immediately becomes the best quarterback the team has had since Manning. He leaves a run-first, plodding offense in Seattle to a redesigned system in Denver with plenty of weapons. The offseason for the San Francisco 49ers was shrouded in off-field drama as star wide receiver Deebo Samuel threatened to hold out for a trade. The trend follows in the footsteps of former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who forced his way to Miami in order to sign a historic contract. The 49ers haven’t budged, and Deebo has reluctantly re-joined the team for now. There have been rumors that the two sides are working towards a major deal, but the 49ers have had a recent strategy of paying up for defense and using interchangeable parts on offense.

Could this year finally be the year for the Chargers? The AFC West division is not only up for grabs by arguably all four teams, but it is easily the strongest division in football. While the Kansas City Chiefs have dominated the division in recent years, their team could certainly take a step back with a completely revamped offense. The Broncos added Russell Wilson at quarterback, and the Las Vegas Raiders added all-pro wide receiver Davante Adams to the mix.
