A couple of struggling SEC teams face off in Starkville on Friday night as the Bulldogs host the Missouri Tigers in a rematch of a game from January 5th which was actually postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Last season, Mississippi State won handily by a score of 78-63 as the visiting team. Can Missouri exact revenge on the Bulldogs? Both teams come in off of losses with the Bulldogs slumping through a mini three-game losing streak. The one thing that stands out is how well Mississippi State has played at home this year. The team has a 12-2 record which includes wins against Alabama and Ohio State, although most of the other victories have been against weaker non-conference squads.
Missouri has struggled on the road with a 2-7 record, with its only wins coming against Ole Miss and Texas A&M. A deeper side shows that the Bulldogs hold a fairly high advantage in field goal percentage, rebounding, and true shooting percentage. These, as well as free throw shooting, are always things I look at when handicapping a college basketball game. Mississippi State also has a much stronger defensive unit, which I think can shut down a fairly lethargic Missouri offense. If I were to look at the total I’d likely look at the under here, but my best bet is going to lay the points with the home team. Take the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday night.
