College Basketball: Purdue (3) vs Northwestern Wildcats

This should be a lopsided Big Ten matchup between the Boilermakers and the WIldcats in Evanston, Illinois on Wednesday night. Purdue is ranked third in the nation right now, and has been carried by a high octane offensive unit all season long. Northwestern is a middle of the pack squad that just had a mini three-game winning streak snapped by the Illini of Illinois. Prior to that Northwestern had consecutive wins against Rutgers, Indiana, and Nebraska. Purdue has looked human the past couple of games, after being demolished by the Wolverines and then barely beating Maryland on Sunday. Defense has been a problem for Purdue, as the team ranks 219th in the nation in defensive rating, while still holding onto the first overall offense.

Purdue still commits a ton of turnovers per game, and for an offensive-minded team, oddly shoots only 70% from the free-throw line. These are all things that can come back to haunt a team in March. For now, what should be a routine win for Purdue always seems to come with challenges. They are only 2-4 against the spread as a road favorite and 3-4 against the spread as the road team. Meanwhile the Wildcats are 2-6 against the spread as underdogs but are 2-1 against the spread as home underdogs. This is going to be a spread with too many points with the way Purdue is playing defense right now. I am taking the points with Northwestern at home.
