NHL Ban on Fighting

hockey fight

It seems as if the NHL is cracking down on rough-housing this year. Detroit Redwing’s Captain Larkin was suspended one game for throwing a punch, and the Avs’ Landeskog was suspended two games for boarding. I was watching the Wings-Lightning game. Detroit’s captain, Dylan Larkin, did indeed throw a solid right cross into the face of Tampa Bay’s Mathieu Joseph, but only after Joseph rode him into the boards from behind. My initial thought was, “Why no major penalty on Joseph?” He got a standard 2-minute roughing call. It was a pretty dirty hit from behind. Larkin had played only 44 games last season after he suffered an injury against the Stars when he was cross-checked in the neck, so you can understand.........

Buffalo Bills @ Tennessee Titans +5.5

October 17, 2021 @ 9:03 AM

NFL Football

Another major AFC clash takes place on Monday Night Football, as the top ranked Buffalo Bills head to Tennessee to take on Derrick Henry and the Titans. The Titans are quietly putting together a fairly solid season, albeit in the worst division in the NFL. They are coming off a thrashing of the Jaguars which made up for the team’s much talked about loss to the Jets in Week 4. The Bills meanwhile are riding as high as you can get after taking down the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, and finally slaying the dragon. Again, the weakest unit in this game is the Titans defense which has been dreadful against all opponents this year. That is probably why Buffalo is laying nearly a touchdown in this game on the road. The only problem with that.........

Los Angeles Charges vs Baltimore Ravens -2.5

October 16, 2021 @ 9:39 AM

football at MtBookie

In a matchup between two of the league’s hottest teams, we get to see two early candidates for league MVP in Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson. The Chargers are coming off a see-saw battle with the Cleveland Browns, in a game that saw a combined 89 points, including 398 yards and 4 passing touchdowns from Herbert. Perhaps just as impressive, Jackson led the Ravens to a second half comeback on Monday Night Football last week, in a game where he threw for 442 yards and 4 touchdowns, while adding 62 yards rushing. It was truly a career moment for Jackson, who is shrugging off doubters this season by taking to the air more than ever before. In an odd twist, the Ravens defense is actually the weakest unit in this game. Although it was .........

California @ Oregon (9) -13.5 on Friday 10/15/21

October 13, 2021 @ 8:13 AM

NCAAF Oregon Ducks

Count Oregon amongst the top college schools that have disappointed so far this season. The Ducks have experienced highs, like defeating Ohio State in Columbus in Week 2, and lows like losing to unranked Stanford in overtime in Week 5. Well now that Oregon has a bye week to get healthy again, reinforcements are on the way. First, defensive line help will be crucial as stud pass rushers Bradyn Swinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux will be starting together for just the second time all season. Keep in mind that Thibodeaux is serving a suspension and will miss the first half of this game. On the California side of the ball, we all know their formula: run the ball and play hard on defense. Well, the Golden Bears have one win so far this season .........

Clemson @ Syracuse +14.0 on Friday 10/15/2021

Clemson Tigers football

It is not often that Clemson plays on a Friday night, but this iteration of Clemson should also not be confused with those of Trevor Lawrence or Deshaun Watson. On Friday, Clemson visits the Carrier Dome to take on Syracuse in the battle of the Orange schools. Clemson enters the game winners of two of their last three games, but still remain unranked for the season. Syracuse is coming off of a tough loss to Wake Forest in overtime and have now dropped two straight games by a field goal. It’s a short week for Syracuse and Clemson is coming off a bye so they should be rested. The problem for Clemson is its offense has been uncharacteristically bad this year. New quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has only thrown three touchdowns so far this .........

Oklahoma: Talk About Football, They Do

October 12, 2021 @ 8:37 AM

Oklahoma Sooners football stadium

My old childhood friend was visiting last year. We grew up together in LA, and he has lived in Oklahoma City the past several years. He was back in town last year visiting family, and I popped in to visit for a while. Since he knows I am an avid runner, he invited me out to the OKC Marathon, which was supposed to be run in April 2021, coinciding with the anniversary of the OKC bombing. Due to Covid restrictions, the marathon was pushed back to October. So- off I went for my first trip to the South. The race (OKC Memorial Marathon) begins with 168 seconds of silence, one second for each victim of the horrible 1995 bombing, and then commenced at 6:30 a.m. for 26.2 miles through the Capitol, Bricktown, and many other historic neighborhoods. .........

Indianapolis Colts @ Baltimore Ravens -7.0

October 9, 2021 @ 1:13 PM

NFL Football

The Colts are coming off of their first win of the season against the Dolphins, and will be heading into Baltimore as a touchdown underdog. Much has been made about Lamar Jackson throwing the ball more than ever this season. Unfortunately with Lamar throwing the ball more, there comes uncertainty with potential turnovers. The Colts defense has been fine this year but are not playing at the same strength as last year. Expect Lamar to keep to the air, but also factor in that Coach Harbaugh knows that is the narrative right now, and that the Ravens may stick to a ground and pound game at home against a weaker opponent. Carson Wentz is playing but is still visibly affected by the two sprained ankles he suffered two weeks ago. He will still be .........

Buffalo Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs -3.0

October 8, 2021 @ 7:07 PM

AFC supremacy is on the line in this Sunday Night Football matchup between the Bills and Chiefs. Last season the teams met twice and the Chiefs were victorious both times including the AFC Championship game in January. The field goal difference in the point spread speaks volumes on how sportsbooks view these two teams. Arrowhead definitely has some advantages, but the cold won’t bother the Bills. Kansas City has started the season slowly this year, finding themselves at the bottom of the AFC West division. The Bills are 3-1 and sit atop the AFC East division, but in hindsight they haven’t truly been challenged, losing to the Steelers in Week 1, and then defeating the Dolphins, Washington, and the Texans last week. Buffalo’.........

College Football: Houston @ Tulane +6.0

October 6, 2021 @ 7:43 PM

Tulane Green Wave

For Thursday night we head to the American Athletic Conference for a matchup between the Cougars and the Green Wave of Tulane. Houston is off to a good start so far this year going 3-1, while Tulane has been a disappointment since its opening week upset of Oklahoma. Last week, Houston smashed Tulsa 45-10 in a game that was never close. The interesting thing to note is that Houston was a three point underdog to Tulsa, which may see an overcorrection of how bettors see them this week. We’ve already seen the line against Tulane rise to -6.0 after opening at -4.5. Houston’s defense is legit though ranking in the top ten in the nation in points allowed per game, and only an average of 144 passing yards. This game can easily be won .........

Temple @ Cincinnati (5) -29

October 6, 2021 @ 6:16 PM

In one of the biggest victories in the history of Cincinnati’s program, the Bearcats are coming off a 24-13 victory at Notre Dame. Is this the year that a Group of Five team finally cracks the College Football Playoffs? Ohio State and Clemson are not looking like their usual selves, while Alabama and Georgia have established themselves in the SEC. This is an obvious letdown sport for Cincinnati but can they still cover 29 points against a Temple team that just has not been impressive at all this year? Surprisingly, Temple managed to defeat Memphis last week although for those who watched the game, it was more of Memphis losing the game than Temple winning. Still, the Owls are faced with another tough task this week compared to their .........
