NFL Pro Bowl 2022 AFC vs NFC

Allegiant stadium

Sunday February 6, 2022 at 3:00 pm ET on ABC & ESPN

After a hiatus in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pro Bowl is back this year and will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. You can think of the Pro Bowl as the All-Star game for the NFL, with a week-long celebration of skills competitions and undoubtedly some partying on the Las Vegas strip.

In 2020, the AFC edged out the NFC by a score of 38-33, in what was one of the highest scoring Pro Bowls in recent memory. The two MVPs of the game were quarterback Lamar Jackson and defensive end Calais Campbell, who are now teammates on the Baltimore Ravens.

In fact, the AFC squad has won four straight Pro Bowls and will be looking to make it five consecutive wins this Sunday. Noticeably present this year are the Kansas City Chiefs, who have been too busy going to the SuperBowl the past few years to make it to the Pro Bowl. Noticeably absent this year is quarterback Tom Brady, who surprisingly retired earlier this week.

Pro Bowl Betting

Like any other NFL game, you can bet on the Pro Bowl at most online sportsbooks. Keep in mind that All-Star games are generally played with minimal effort, especially on defense. The last thing anyone wants is an injury in a meaningless game. While you would think that would lend to betting on the over, the previous three Pro Bowls before 2021 were all low scoring. The indoor stadium in Las Vegas does tend to lend to higher scores, so that might be something to consider as well.

As for the handicap of the game, it’s always difficult to pick a side here, and it’s probably a reason why the spread is a Pick Em right now. Overall, the AFC has a 25-22 edge in Pro Bowl wins, but you can’t even really use historical data to analyze each individual game. If I were to lean to a side, I’d probably take the AFC with Mahomes, Kelce, and Hill all planning to play in the game. Also, running backs tend to do well in these games as the defense softens so with Jonathan Taylor, Nick Chubb, and Najee Harris, the AFC has a stacked backfield.

The NFC is a little less inspiring with Kirk Cousins and Russell Wilson suiting up as injury replacements. This side will also be missing star receivers like Davante Adams and Cooper Kupp, as well as several offensive lineman out with injuries. If I’m really going to attack this game from a betting view, I’m going to take the Under 61.5 points. The Pro Bowls have historically been lower scoring in recent years, and in a game like this, I’ll take these recent trends which have many of the same players returning this year.
