Is everyone ready for some MACtion on Christmas Day? Ball State and Georgia State lock up in this year’s Camellia Bowl which takes place in Montgomery, Alabama. Why is that significant? It’s much more of a home game for Georgia State than Ball State who travels in from Indiana. These two teams haven’t met since 2016, and like many bowl games, the teams just do not have much of a history against each other given that they are from different conferences. When it comes to any game featuring Georgia State, the main handicap is how good the opposition’s run defense is. Georgia State operates a triple option run game that puts the team 17th in the nation in total rushing yards per game. Ball State has an above average passing game but will struggle to get on the field with Georgia State eating up the clock. Not only that, but Georgia State has a formidable pass rush that produced 84 tackles for loss this year, so quarterback Drew Plitt will be under pressure all game long. It’s easy to say that Georgia State should win this game, but spreads are tricky in bowl season, as is player motivation. I’ll take the Under 50.5 on Christmas Day.
