A premier SEC matchup takes us into the final stretch of the season as the upstart Arkansas Razorbacks host the LSU Tigers on Wednesday night. Arkansas took the first matchup between these two squads back on January 15th by a score of 65-58 in Baton Rouge. The visiting covered the -6.5 spread by the thinnest of margins, and we can expect a slightly higher spread for Arkansas at home. In that game, LSU turned up the defense with an impressive 14 steals and 4 blocks but were heavily outrebounded by Arkansas. Despite having only half the steals that LSU did, Arkansas managed to score 20 points off of turnovers compared to just 13 for LSU.
The Tigers will need to implement their trademark stingy defense, a unit that is currently ranked 2nd in the nation in defensive rating and first in steals. LSU will also need to win the battle on the glass, and put away second chance opportunities. Arkansas is solid and red-hot right now going 9-1 in its last ten games, and winning four straight, including games over Kentucky, Florida, and Auburn over the past few weeks. It was a close game in January, but Arkansas managed to take advantage of turnovers and dominated the offensive glass. While the Razorbacks are on fire, I think this will lead to an inflated line and LSU will be undervalued. Pythagorean wins actually has LSU ahead of Arkansas in ranking, so I am taking the points with the LSU Tigers.
