Vegas Tops AFC West

The Las Vegas Raiders, fresh off a win against the Eagles, find themselves atop the AFC West with a 5-2 record: one more win than each of the other three teams in their division. But they are making headlines again for all the wrong reasons. Just a few weeks ago, their head coach Jon Gruden resigned- probably a resign or be fired situation- when emails he sent several years ago leaked where he made racist and homophobic slurs. The Raiders seemingly moved on, having won two in a row, and then woke up to some very sad news that their wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was involved in a crash where he was driving under the influence, and his corvette struck another vehicle, causing a fatal injury to that driver. Ruggs was transported to a local hospital, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries and will be booked for DUI causing a fatality. This happened at about 3:30 am. Ruggs is only 22 years and was having a breakthrough season for the Raiders. It begs the question, "Why drive drunk especially now-a-days with so many other means to get around town, especially when that town is Las Vegas: Lyft, Uber, taxis, and countless other methods are available 24-7 in that town. He certainly had the money to pay for the rideshare service after a night out drinking. Now- an innocent person lost their life for a senseless act. And I doubt Riggs will be back in the NFL after this. He will probably be released by the Raiders very shortly and won't be picked up by another team. He ruined his life too over an inconvenience of having to leave his car somewhere, paying a few dollars, and having to retrieve the car the next day. Ruggs could possibly be facing 2-20 years in prison. My guess is he will serve closer to two, and that is why these types of "accidents" keep happening- because the diver always walks away without a scratch, and with little more than a slap on the wrist.
