NCAA Championship: UNC (8) Vs. Kansas (1) -4

Kansas Jayhawks basketball

Tipoff Time 9:20 pm ET Monday April 4, 2022

In what has seemed like a blink of an eye, we find ourselves in the National Championship game between two blue-blood schools in North Carolina and Kansas. The Jayhawks dispatched of Villanova with ease and North Carolina upset Duke and ended Coach K’s final season behind the bench. North Carolina has really come on during the tournament and in the second half of the season. Kansas has been as impressive on the defensive side of the ball as it has on the offense. They clamped down on both Villanova and Miami Florida in the second halves. They also caught fire from beyond the arch against Villanova, shooting 13 for 24.

UNC rode the hot hand of Caleb Love against Duke, who scored 28 points including a dagger from downtown with about 24 seconds left to play to put UNC up by four. One key area that will be of interest for both squads is in the post. Kansas center David McCromack dominated the smaller Villanova squad, but he’ll likely have a tougher time doing so against Armando Bacot. The UNC center had 21 rebounds against Duke even while injuring his ankle and fouling out in the fourth quarter. If Bacot is hobbled, UNC could pound the rock down low and put him in foul trouble again. It’s hard to bet against Kansas with the way they have been playing, even with how hot UNC has been. They just look the part of the number one seed and have been dominating teams on both ends of the court. It’s been a magical run for UNC, but I’m laying the points with Kansas in the championship game.
