The Georgia Peach
Detroit Tiger Outfielder Tyrus (Ty) Cobb AKA the Georgia Peach collected 12 batting titles in his 24-year career in Major League Baseball. Not know as a home run hitter, Cobbs thinking was getting singles when they drove in runs, or leading off an inning was the better strategy and made the game of baseball much more interesting than a home run hitter. It not clear which he despised more; the end of the Dead Ball era, or the home run slugger Babe Ruth who he felt lowered the standard of the game.
