NFL Football Brief: Week Seven
October 22, 25, 26, 2020
Wednesday October 21, 2020
Week 6 brought us some stability in terms of COVID-19 tests as no postponements was welcome news for the NFL, especially as teams begin to head into their bye weeks. We saw as Tom Brady and the Buccaneers demolished the visiting Packers as home underdogs, and saw a completely different looking 49ers team bounce back from their loss to Miami, with a win over the Rams. Survivor pools were wrecked as the underdogs had their revenge with Atlanta and the Giants picking up their first wins of the season, while Denver, San Francisco, Chicago, and Tampa Bay all won outright as underdogs. Onwards to Week 7 where we have a couple clunkers in primetime but some sky-high totals on Sunday.
Our Record: 16-17-1
Week 1: 5-1
Week 2: 3-3
Week 3: 4-1-1
Week 4: 2-2 (The Steelers vs Titans game was PPD)
Week 5: 2-4
Week 6: 0-6 (yikes!)
Detroit Lions @ Atlanta Falcons -2.5: Both teams are coming off impressive wins in Week 6 as the Lions knocked off the Jaguars and the Falcons upset the Vikings at home. The return of Julio Jones was crucial to Matt Ryan and the Falcons’ offense, while their defense looked inspired under interim coach Raheem Morris. The Lions rode the hot hand with rookie running back D’Andre Swift leading the charge. Matthew Stafford did not have to do much in managing the game as the Lions got out to an early lead and never looked back. Week 6 aside, the Lions have looked like the better team and take them to cover the spread and win outright.
Our Pick: Detroit +2.5 and the Over 57
Green Bay Packers @ Houston Texans +3.5: Unlike the previous game, these two teams are coming off disappointing losses as the Texans blew a lead and lost the game in overtime and the Packers were blown out in Tampa Bay. Look for the Packers to re-establish their offense through Aaron Jones as the Texans are susceptible to the run as witnessed by Derrick Henry’s 212 yards on the ground last week. Another week back for Davante Adams should help him shake the rust and get back on the same page with Rodgers. Meanwhile the Texans have looked better offensively but their defense still cannot stop anything, as was witnessed by the Titans’ comeback. Another trend is to bet against teams that have just played Derrick Henry. King Henry punishes defenses all game long and players are known to feel the effects seven days later. Take the Packers to roll here in Houston.
Our Pick: Green Bay -3.5 and the Over 56.5
Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints -7.5: Michael Thomas should be back for the Saints after his one game suspension but will he solve all of New Orleans’ issues? The Saints nearly lost to rookie Justin Herbert and the Chargers last Monday before heading into their bye. Meanwhile the Panthers are not good but have been spread covering machines as underdogs this year. The Saints’ defense has looked suspect, and although the Panthers are not world beaters, neither were the Chargers with a rookie quarterback, missing Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler. In a revenge game for Teddy Bridgewater, look for the Panthers to put up a fight against New Orleans and keep things within a touchdown.
Our Pick: Carolina +7.5 and the Over 51.5Bet on NFL Football: Free payouts in 24 hours or less, live in play wagering, and a 100% Sign Up Bonus up to $500 at GTBets Sports.
