Week 2 of Monday Night Football will be between the host New York Jets and the visiting Cleveland Browns. Both teams are off to an 0-1 start. The Browns are a 6 point road favorite, and the over/under is fairly low at 44 points. The Jets actually have a 58% chance of winning based on the ESPN match-up predictor, but Cleveland is still -280 with the money line, while NY is +240. The Jets suffered a big blow when it was announced that their starting QB Sam Darnold is out, and will be replaced by Trevor Siemian. Cleveland had a lot of pre-season hype surrounding their squad, and not only did they lose at home to the Titans, but they got blown away 43-13 in a game where they committed 18 penalties, which is the most penalties committed by a team in one game since 1951. Browns star WR Odell Beckham Jr. will return to NY for the first time since being traded by his former team- the Giants also play at Metlife Stadium- so I look for him to want to have a big game.
I still believe in Cleveland. I think their O-line was exposed and that is a huge issue for them going forward, but I also think they can turn things around as the season is still young. One thing's for sure, neither team wants to start in an 0-2 hole. The Jets will also be playing with a chip on their shoulder. Last year, Cleveland Browns fired their coach Hue Jackson, and their defensive coordinator, who is the now-Jets defensive coordinator- Greg Williams- took over the remainder of the year, leading the Browns to a 5-3 record. He then lost the Browns' head coaching vacancy job to Kitchens. So Between Beckham Jr. and the kitchens-Williams coaching job competition, both teams will be playing with some emotion, and so this one is tough to call. NY has home-field, but I think the Browns come out swinging and get the W, quieting the critics for at least another week.
