MLB Power Rankings

The Minnesota Twins are climbing their way back to the top of the MLB Power Rankings. They currently sit at #2, up 3 spots from last week's #5 ranking, and trail only the Houston Astros, who remained at #1. The Twins are tied with the Astros for the most wins in the majors at 37, but they played two less games than Houston, and have two fewer losses, which results in a one game lead, good enough for the best record in baseball. Their winning percentage is almost .700- it's .685. Minnesota is coming off sweeps against both the Angels and White Sox. They then split a 2 game series with the Brewers, and now they take on an important meeting with the Tampa Bay Rays. Tampa is just a game behind the Yankees in the Al East, and are 6th in the Power Rankings.

Pitching has what has helped the Rays as of late. They had a 2.95 ERA in March-April which led the Majors, and were third in ERA in May at 2.99, and one of those teams they trailed were the Twins. Tampa will be at home, and game one has the Rays as -133 favorites . The over/under is 8, which seems a little high considering the two pitchers are Martin Perez for the Twins, who is 7-1 with a 2.95 ERA, going against Charlie Morton for the Rays, who is 5-0 with a 2.54 ERA, which by the way is the third lowest ERA in the AL.

Both pitchers are having above normal seasons for themselves, as their career overall records are about .500 each with ERA's in the 4's. Tampa is playing well at home this year with a 15-11 record, but the Twins are even better on the road with an 18-8 road record. Minnesota already has a 10 game lead over 2nd place Cleveland, so the Rays have more to play for it would seem, as they can catch the New York Yankees for first place and avoid being the wild-card team. I still think the Twins take the series though.
