The Boston Bruins are going to the Stanley Cup. After two game 7's in two series, they managed to blow by the Carolina Hurricanes in a 4 game sweep, winning game 4 in a 4-0 shutout. They'll have at least 5 days off as the Western Conference championship is tied up at 2 games apiece. So even if one team wins the next two, that game 6 won't be until Tuesday, and the Cup will start a couple days after that. And the way the Western series has been going, it wouldn't surprise me to see that series reach game 7. One thing is for sure, and that is Boston will have plenty of rest against whoever they play next, although they may be a little rusty in the opening period or two. If Boston does win the cup,
it will likely be due to their goaltender Tuukka Rask, who stopped all 24 shots yesterday, and is now 3-0 this postseason in games where the Bruins can close out an opponent. I picked the B's to win the cup at the start of the postseason, even though I had some doubts as the playoffs progressed with all those game 7's, I couldn't "picture" any of the remaining teams winning, especially after the NHL regular season's best team- the Lightning- got swept out of the first round. The Cup just doesn't feel like it belongs in San Jose, or St. Louis, at least not this year. Besides Rask, the Bruins power-play was stellar as well, allowing the Canes to score just once in 14 power-play tries. Game 5 between the Blues and Sharks will be Sunday, followed by game 6 on Tuesday, and then- if necessary- game 7 will be played on Thursday.
As I said I don't think it will matter which Western team the Blues will play, but if I had to choose WHO they will play, I think the Blues. They tied the series at 2, and really should have won game 3. I think since that blown game 3 call, they'll be playing with a chip on their shoulder the rest of this series, and should win the series, I'm thinking at home in game 6 Tuesday.
