The "Tournament" is in full swing. The first four days are always the best with the action starting in the early hours, at least on the Pacific Coast, and lasting well into the late night. One major upset so far, and that is UC Irvine knocking off #4 Kansas State. I figured Florida would beat Nevada. Vegas had a prop bet at the beginning of the season that Nevada would go undefeated, and the payoff wasn't really as big as you'd think, but that's because of how weak their schedule was.
They ended up losing four games, and it was no surprise, to me at least, that Florida would win, even though the Gators have had some struggles this year of their own. Another four loss team, #12 Murray State, took care of #5 Marquette. As far as a #5 beating a #12, that's always an upset, although it is a much more common occurrence lately, but Murray State probably deserved better than 12, and I think Marquette should've been more a #6 or 7. They were 24-10 on the season, and lost pretty badly to the Racers 83-64.
For the first slate of games this weekend, I don't see any major upsets. MSU should beat Minnesota easily, Kentucky over Wofford, LSU I think will beat Maryland, although they are just a 2.5 point favorite and #1 Gonzaga should beat #9 Baylor, but I think that's as far as the Zags get this year. I think the most exciting game will be #4 Kansas playing #5 Auburn. The Tigers are actually a 2 point favorite despite being a lower seed, and they hold a slight 52.5% chance of winning this game outright according to ESPN.
They are -140 with the money line, while the Jayhawks are +120. Auburn is on an 8 game winning streak, including wins over Florida and twice over Tennessee. I like them to advance to the Sweet 16, as well as Murray State.
