The buzz around the highly anticipated game between top Ranked Duke and #8 North Carolina lasted 36 seconds. Zion Williamson injured his knee when he somehow blew out his size 15 Nike shoe, and would not come back for the remainder of the game. I'm sure those people who paid 2,600 dollars wish they would've watched the game on TV somewhere instead.
Duke ended up losing for just the third time this year, but I don't think they will fall in the rankings too much. Williamson is their star player, and with him out for pretty much the whole game, Duke just wasn't mentally prepared for that. But they were 9 point favorites, they were the #1 team in the country, and they were playing at home, and so they easily could have found a way to win, they just didn't. They lost by 16, and no one player should move the line from 9 point favorite to 16 point dog.
I wonder if Duke can get out of their 12-year deal they have with Nike? I also wonder how much Nike stock will fall in the coming weeks. The good news is that Williamson will not miss too much time, and should be back before season's end, in time for the Tournament. Next up for Duke is at Syracuse, who they lost to at home a few weeks ago when they were looking ahead to their game against Virginia.
But in a little over two weeks, On March 9th, the Blue Devils and Tar Heels will meet again, this time in North Carolina, where Duke will get a chance at revenge. Zion Williamson should be active for that game, so at least the fans will get to see the game they didn't get to see the first time around.
For the Tar Heels, they have #16 FSU coming up this Saturday, then Clemson, BC, and finally hosting Duke Saturday March 9th. The time is TBD, but you can bet it will be a prime-time match-up. I can tell you right now, Zion will have a monster game and Duke will win that game, and likely a National Championship.
