The Duke-Virginia rematch is here already. The Blue Devils won the first game in a nail biter 72-70 just a few weeks ago on January 19th. But that game was at Duke. This time around, Duke will have to travel to Virginia. Just prior to that game, Duke lost to Syracuse in a game which I said they were obviously just looking ahead to Virginia. The fell 95-91 in overtime. Since that loss, they are now on a 6 game winning streak, a streak that began with that Virginia game.
For Virginia, that Duke loss was their first-and only- loss of the season. They have started a new winning streak since that loss, which has reached 4 games now. So who will win this highly anticipated rematch between the #2 and #3 seeds in the nation? According to ESPN, Virginia has a 66.8% chance of winning. They did only lose by two on the road last time, so it makes sense they will win their home game.
Just like in football, it's tough to beat the same team twice in a season, and I suspect that will be true for Duke this time around as well. If Virginia is to win, they will have to control RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson who combined for 57 of Duke's 72 points the last time around. After this game, Virginia still has to play North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Louisville twice to close out the regular season, so I think they'll end up with a couple more losses along the way, but I don't think one of them will be against Duke this Saturday.
