February is here, and that means March Madness tips off next month already. Selection Sunday will be held on St. Patrick's Day, so that will be a fun day to host a viewing party. The madness ends in April actually, not March, when the Final Four and National Championship games will be played in Minneapolis, MN.
The day after the Super Bowl, there are three games slated, all involving ranked teams; 1 ACC game and 2 BIg 12 games. #12 Virginia Tech will host #15 Louisville to start things off. Virginia Tech is coming off a very low-scoring victory against # 23 NC State 47-24, while Louisville will probably drop a few spots before their next game as they lost a home game to North Carolina Saturday.
They fell behind 16 at the half, and though made a little bit of a 2nd half push to get it to a single digit deficit, the Tar Heels were just too good and closed them out, ultimately winning 79-69. This snapped a 6 game winning streak for the Cardinals, a streak that began a few weeks ago when they beat this same Tar Heels team on the road, a loss that was the worst Tar Heel's home loss under Coach Williams, 83-62. I'm sure they had revenge on their minds as their last meeting was still fresh in William's head, as it came January 12th.
It would be fun if these two teams met up one more time this season at some point in the tournament. The Virginia Tech Hokies will take their 3 game winning streak into this one Monday, where they have a 78.5% chance of winning. These teams are separated by less than one point scored per game, but the Hokies give up 5.6 points less per game, 62 vs. 67.6. Tip off is Monday at 4:00 pm PT.
