NFL week 15 kicks off Thursday night when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs are a perfect 6-0 at home this year, but LA is an impressive 5-1 on the road. This game has some interesting playoff implications. KC is 11-2 and are the top-ranked team in the AFC currently. LA is 10-3, 2nd best record in the AFC right behind KC, but they are currently 5th in the playoff seedings because they are in the same division as KC (AFC West).
The four division winners get the first four playoff spots in each conference, so the Chargers will have to win their division to get the first-round bye. LA will make the playoffs, but if they get in as the wildcard team, then they won't likely host a playoff game. If they can beat KC, they have a high likelihood of winning the division. So this game will be very close. KC is a 3.5 point home favorite and the over/under is 53 points. These teams opened the season against each other in week 1, and the Chiefs won at Los Angeles 38-28. LA is just 7-6 against the spread this year while Kansas City is much better at 8-4-1. But I think if LA is close enough to win getting 3.5 points, then they will just win the game outright. If they do, they are +160 with the money line, and the Chiefs are -190.
I think the under is coming in. It easily has the potential to be a mini-shootout, but rain is in the forecast and too much is on the line so I see a more defensive-minded game. It could still be high-scoring, high 40s or low 50s, but that would still mean the under would win. Charger's star RB Gordon is listed as questionable, but it seems unlikely he will suit up, especially after missing Monday's walk-through.
Kickoff is 5:20 PM PT from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, where the winner likely takes the AFC West, and more importantly, the AFC Conference and first-round bye.
