Chicago Cubs vs Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3
LA Dodgers host the Chicago Cubs in game 3 of the NLCS today at Chavez Ravine (Dodger Stadium). The series is tied at 1 apiece which means if the Cubbies can win 3 of the next 5 games they will actually be in a MLB World Series. The Cubs won the first game at beautiful Wrigley Field, but took one on the chin in LA the other day with that 1 to 0 loss. The Cubs had very little defense in that game, the hitters and their bats were silent, but the Dodgers may have just given Chicago a nice gift with a bow on it.
Chicago loves batting against Southpaws and left hander Rich Hill is slated to star for LAt, while the Cubs are going with last year’s Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta. Right handed Arrieta threw a no hitter against the Dodgers last August (2015) although the Dodgers protested the call. It was the third inning of that game when Enrique Hernandez belted one to second, the ball took a hop, Hernandez made it to first but the play was called an error not a hit, hence a no hitter.
Chicago has a few players who have just stopped hitting and are due to have a break out. Shortstop Addison Russell has 1 hit at 22 at bats in the playoffs and Anthony Rizzo who had a great season is 1 for 23. Kris Bryant had a great season. Started of hot then slowed just a little. I look to him in the next few games to back to form. Veteran switch hitter Ben Zorbrist is reliable force and I see him adding to the mix as well.
The Sum Up
I am going with the Cubs this year, it has to be, they are just too good of a team not to break out of the curse and win the whole enchilada, or should we say the whole deep dish pizza; after all we are talking about Chicago.
