Selection Sunday is less than a week away. On Sunday March 13, at 5:30 PM EST, CBS will televise the 2-hour long event, as will ncaa.com. The NCAA March Madness will commence with the first four games being played on March 15-16, and then the real tournament, as I like to refer to it, will begin the first and second rounds on March 17-20. The committee has to pick the 36 best at-large teams, then seed the field of 68 teams before placing the teams into the brackets.
The 2nd round of the ACC tournament will continue on Wednesday morning when Pittsburgh “hosts” Syracuse in Washington D.C. Winner of the ACC tourney gets an automatic bid. Both teams were 9-9 in the ACC this season. 7th ranked North Carolina won the ACC regular season title this year when they beat #17 Duke 76-72 this past weekend. If Syracuse loses this game, I think they will be out of the NCAA Tournament, and instead be playing in the NIT. Syracuse is 15-16 against the spread this year, and Pitt is 15-15.
Against the spread on the road, Cuse is 7-7 and Pitt is 9-10 as the home team, but since this game is being played at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., the home-court advantage doesn’t really apply. I think Syracuse will be tough to beat in this old Big East Matchup. I do feel that Pittsburgh will get in even if they lose, but it’s no guarantee, so this should be a close game. Tip off is early at 9:00 AM PST.
