Cleveland and Golden State set for NBA Finals

Anderson Varejao and both out for Cavs

The NBA Finals are still about a week away, but the match-up is set. The Cleveland Cavaliers will represent the East, and the Golden State Warriors will represent the West. Game 1 is slated for Thursday, June 4 at Golden State(Oakland, CA) at 6:00 PM PST. Both teams will get plenty of rest as they each finished their conference finals quickly; Cleveland winning in 4 games and Golden State only needing 5. Currently, Lebron James is not favored to win.

The Cavs are 2/1 underdogs in this series. The Warriors are 5/12, so a 100 dollar bet will yield about a 40 dollar payout, plus your 100 back. I would go with the underdog on this one. The odds are better for one thing, and they have the best player in the World with Lebron James. He has two rings and the experience that goes along with them. The Cavs only have two losses so far in the playoffs, both coming to Chicago; they swept the other two series against Boston and against Atlanta, who had the best regular season record in the Eastern Conference.

The Cavs will be without center Anderson Varejao, however, because of a torn left Achilles he suffered in late December. Before his injury, he was fifth on the team in scoring, and third in rebounding. They will also be without forward Kevin Love because of his dislocated left shoulder he suffered in the first-round against the Celtics. Despite those injuries, and not having home court, I think they can overcome and win. Warriors guard Klay Thompson sustained a concussion during Wednesday's series-clinching win over the Rockets and is out until he is cleared to play.

He may miss the first game, but he has plenty of time to get ready and should be able to play in Game 2, if not the first game, despite The Warriors statement of, "He will be evaluated daily and there is no timetable for his return." This should be an exciting series, I think it will go 6 games. I feel Golden State had great regular season success, they did have the best record, and I think losing in this finals will give them experience and motivation that they can use to eventually win a championship next year.
