Notre Dame finished their season undefeated and have earned the right to be one of the 4 teams to play in the college football playoffs, but I still don't think it's fair that they get to close out their regular season beating USC, and not having to play in a conference championship game.
Meanwhile, #5 Oklahoma has to play #14 Texas for the Big 12 Championship, and if the Sooners win, they should jump the Fighting Irish for a playoff spot. Also, # 1 Alabama has to play # 4 Georgia for the SEC Championship, and if they win, will then have to play another #4 team just to get to the championship game.
Alabama is also undefeated at 12-0 and are a big 13.5-point favorite Saturday. Georgia was up 13-0 at halftime last year in the Championship game, but Alabama came back and won 26-23 in overtime on a 2nd and 26 play. Georgia has to win to make the playoffs, and if Alabama loses I think they still make the playoffs. This game is supposed to be played at a neutral site, but it's in Atlanta, same place it was when these two teams faced off last year, and so for Georgia it may as well be a home game.
So what I think will happen is Georgia will win this game, Georgia will jump to #1 and Alabama will fall to #4. Then these two teams will play each other again on December 29th in the first round of the playoffs, where Alabama will win this time and go on to win yet another National Championship, probably against Clemson. Georgia is +400, and I think I would go out on a limb and take the Bulldogs straight up and see if I could score a big payday. They are essentially at home and played a bit of a tougher schedule, and no doubt have revenge on their mind. Kickoff is at 1:00 PM PT Saturday from Atlanta, Georgia.
