Group E, Brazil takes on Group F, Mexico on Monday, July 2nd.
After a near-perfect start for Mexico in the World Cup, Sweden stopped El Tricolor from finishing on top of Group F, by beating them 3 – 0. Mexico will need to regain their composure quickly, as their next game is against Brazil, on Monday, 2nd July, at the Samara Arena.
Juan Carlos Osorio will need to take a closer look at why Mexico was unable to contain the Swedish offense during the second half. As Brazil has immense attacking talent available in their squad such as Neymar, Willian, Roberto Firmino, Gabriel Jesus, and Philippe Coutinho, Mexico’s defense has to be knit tightly.
Mexico hopes to change their luck in the knockout stages, as El Tricolor have gone out six times consecutively.
Seleção will bring the heat on the Mexico defense, as the Swedes made the most of this vulnerability. As Douglas Costa is suffering from a hamstring injury and Marcelo’s fitness in doubt, Seleção may not be as strong as they were in the group stages.
For Mexico to beat Brazil, they will have to withstand the offensive onslaught from their opponents and play counter-attacking football. Javier Hernandez, Carlos Vela, and Hirving Lozano will need to be at their best for Mexico to proceed to the next round.
Even though Mexico has the tactics and talent to open the Brazilian defense, odds are stacked in favor of Seleção’s deep and skillful squad bringing El Tricolor’s World Cup campaign to a halt!
