Javier Castellano, Jockeying Audible in Kentucky Derby

Born in 1977 in Venezuela, Javier Castellano is a popular American jockey who will be riding Audible in this years Kentucky Derby on May 5th. Castellano, who kickstarted his career in Venezuela in 1996 put that career into high speed in 1997 when he moved to the United States and made his first major win in 2004. It was that same year, 2004 when Castellano won the Breeder's Cup Classic which helped propel the horse he jockeyed, Ghostzapper to win The Horse of the Year crown, one of the prestigious Eclipse Awards named after an undefeated thoroughbred from the 18th century who won 18 races placing him forth for Thoroughbred racehorses by wins.

Castellano also won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey for four consecutive years in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. During these four years, he was among the highest earning jockeys in North America.

In 2017, Castellano was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

Castellano is among one of the most honored and well-respected jockeys owing to his eventful career over the years. He is, in fact, considered to be one of the best jockeys in the world. He had a Triple Crown win in 2006. Other top wins of Castellano include Ghostzapper, Honor Code, and Liam’s Map. Castellano has also made six wins in the Breeder's Cup Classic. In 2017, Castellano had purse earnings of $23,456,741 after he reached the winner's circle. His highest wins were from the years between 2013 to 2016 when he won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey.
