The madness is almost over. Monday night at 6:20 PM PST, two #!1 Seeds will square off for the NCAA Men’s National Championship. North Carolina (32-7) takes oncGonzaga (37-1) whose only loss came against BYU 79-71 back in February. The North Carolina Tar Heels are a 1.5 point favorite, and the over/under is 154.5 points. Heading into the tournament, Gonzaga was the 2nd overall seed, getting 6 first place votes, and North Carolina was ranked 6th in the final AP Poll.
I think if both teams play their best game, Carolina will come out on top. They will have to play much better than they did against Oregon, however. Carolina definitely had a tougher schedule than the Zags. They lost to Duke twice and beat them once, they lost to Kentucky, Indiana and UVA who were all ranked. So though their schedule was tougher, they didn’t necessarily win those tough games. They did beat Kentucky when it counted, though. But their last two tournament wins were by 2 and 1 point, so as I said, they will need to play much better to hang with Gonzaga.
Either way, both teams beat 4 worthy opponents each in the tournament and both deserve to be here. And either way, this game will not be a blow out. I think we will see a little more offense and this game goes over. I see the Tar Heels getting back in rhythm and winning the championship, and I think probably by more than 1.5 points.
