Rose Bowl: USC Trojans vs Penn State Nittany Lions Preview
College football begins the new year with a hot matchup between USC and Penn State for the Rose Bowl. The scintillating match sees 2 comeback kings face off to end their glorious seasons on a high. Penn State are currently on a 9 game winning streak while the Trojans are on an 8 game winning streak. No other team is playing as well as either of these 2 classic teams. The Rose Bowl is hard to predict this year but the Trojans might sneak away with a narrow win.
The Trojans started with a 1-3 record and have since won every game they’ve played. Their change of Qbs in September seems to have done the trick for the offense as Sam Arnold has combined well with Ronald Jones II. Jones is responsible for 9 touchdowns in his last 5 games. Defensively, USC are not easy to play against – they have held 5 of their last 8 opponents to less than a 100 rushing yards and during their winning streak, have conceded an average of only 18.9 points per game.
Penn State Nittany Lions
The Nittany Lions started the season horribly with a thrashing from Alabama, but have since gone on to win the Big Ten title. QB Trace McSorley has been their key performer and his skills were on display in the championship game where he pulled his team back from a 21 point deficit, throwing for a record 384 passing yards and 4 touchdowns with 0 interceptions. Penn State also have a great defense on their side with 39 sacks. Garrett Sickles has been their star in defense but a total of 5 players have amassed at least 3 sacks this season.
While both teams are in top form, USC have more experience in the Rose Bowl with a solid 24-9 record while Penn State are just 1-2. Their experience is expected to get the Trojans a narrow win over Penn State.
