Friday will complete the second half of the Sweet 16 games. Both #1 seeds, North Carolina and Virginia, are the most favored at 5.5 points. They take on Indiana and Iowa State respectively. #6 Notre Dame will take on #7 Wisconsin, and two low ranked seeds #10 Syracuse will play #11 Gonzaga. I didn't think the Zags would get past the first round let alone the second, and the same goes for Syracuse for that matter. If I had to pick the winner of this one, I would think Syracuse comes out on top.
Either way a double digit team will make it to the Elite 8. Gonzaga, however, is favored by 4.5 points, and the over/under is 135 points. Syracuse is +175 with the moneyline and Gonzaga is -200. +175 seems a pretty good payout for a 100 dollar wager considering Syracuse are ranked higher and they're playing an 11 seed. Granted Syracuse did luck out a little as they got to play a 15th ranked team in MTSU to get to this point, while Gonzaga had to beat a #3 seed in Utah, which they won that game handedly 82-59. Syracuse really should have played 2nd ranked Michigan State if they didn't lose one of the biggest upsets in tournament history. Gonzaga had to adjust over the past month with their big man Przemek Karnowski out.
Can they penetrate Syracuse's 2-3 zone? They can probably shoot over it, but only two teams all season have scored over 80 points against it: St. John's and UNC. Gonzaga is 24-0 when they score over 70, so if the Cuse can hold them to under 70, I think they win, but if the Zags can score 70+, then I would give this game to them.
