The 2nd round match-ups are set for the NCAA Tournament. The biggest 1st round shocker had to be when #2 MSU lost to #15 MTSU. That was probably the biggest upset in tournament history, as many people thought that MSU should have been a #1 seed, and also thought that they were going to win the whole tournament. Coming in, only Kansas had better odds to win the whole thing, MSU and North Carolina were tied for the 2nd best chance of winning the title.
On Sunday, there will be a few other high-seeded teams playing. #13 Hawaii will take on Maryland thanks to their upset against #4 Cal. #11 Northern Iowa will play #3 Texas A&M due to their upset against #6 Texas on a last second half-court heave. This is the third straight tournament that the Panthers get a tournament victory. It will be interesting if they can knock off two Texas teams in a row. #14 Stephen F. Austin will go up against 6th ranked Notre Dame because of their blowout win against 3rd ranked WVU. The problems that some of these high seed teams face when they play in the next round is that the teams they go up against will definitely not be taking them lightly, as say MSU did with Middle Tennessee. In the second round, I don't think there will be as many upsets.
Maybe a 7th ranked team like Iowa or Wisconsin will get by their #2 opponent in Villanova or Xavier respectively. I think Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon and Maryland all win. But I think Middle Tennessee has a chance to make it to the Sweet 16, probably not past that, but at least get to it. They are playing a 10th ranked Syracuse who some thought were lucky to get an invite. MTSU, however, is probably mis-seeded at 15.
They won 5 more games than Syracuse and lost 4 less (25-9). Syracuse lost 4 of their final 5 games before entering the tournament, and MTSU won their final 5 games. Both teams are 15-17 against the spread this year. Tip-off is 3:10 PM PST on Sunday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
