Super Bowl week is here. The big game- the 50th one to be played- will take place Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, home of the 49ers. Kickoff is at 3:30 PST. The 15-1 Carolina Panthers are a 6 point favorite against the 12-4 Denver Broncos. The over/under is 45 points. Denver is +200 with the money line, and Carolina is -240. Carolina has a 55.7% chance of winning this game according to the ESPN Football Power Index.
I really didn’t think the Broncos would get passed New England, but that’s why these games are played on the field and not on paper. This will probably be Peyton Manning’s last game, and so you know he is not going out without a fight. Denver’s defense has gotten them to this point as Manning has had a pretty awful season, throwing for just 9 TD’s and 17 interceptions. I really feel that Carolina has a better chance to breakthrough against Denver’s defense more so than Denver’s offense can break through against Carolina’s defense.
If you’re going to parlay this game, it would make sense to take Denver with the under and Carolina with the over. The lines opened up at Carolina -3.5, but have almost doubled. Will it reach that elusive 7 points? If it does we may not see it until the day or two before Sunday when there is a lot more action coming in. I’m guessing 6.5 is the highest we will see it go. If Carolina wins, it could be a blowout, but I think Denver’s D keeps them in it throughout the whole game, so I think the Panthers and Cam Newton prevail, but I would take Denver getting the 6 points.
