The college football National Championship game is finally here. This Monday, January 11, #1 Clemson “hosts” #2 Alabama in the AT&T National Championship Game in Glendale, Arizona. Kickoff is at 5:30 PM PT. It looks like the playoff wasn’t necessary this year as #3 MSU and #4 Oklahoma both lost, so we get to see the top two teams go at it for the final.
Though Clemson is ranked 1, and though they are the only undefeated team this year, they are still a 7 point underdog entering the contest. Alabama is -250 with the money line, while Clemson is +230. Despite Alabama having a strong defense, giving up just 13 points per game, the over/under in this game is pretty high at 51 points. Alabama averaged 34.1 points per game, and Clemson was scoring over 38 points per game. According to the ESPN Football Power Index, Alabama has a 61.9% chance to win this game. And while that may be true, Clemson is undefeated, so to be a +230 would be some odds I would be willing to take.
This will be a great game. Both teams deserve to be there, and I do not see a blowout for either team occurring. To me, the key to this game will be Clemson’s offense on Bama’s defense. Truthfully, if Clemson had Alabama’s schedule this year, there’s no way they would have gone undefeated, but the game is not played on paper, and upsets do happen in college football, but in the end I think Bama wins, and covers their 7 point deficit.
